William N. Ward, Jr. is the son of the late Pearl and William Henry Ward.  He is a native of Hampton, Virginia and graduated from Hampton Institute in 1979 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing.   Supt. Ward received his commission to serve in the United States Army as a Second Lieutenant upon graduating from Hampton Institute, now Hampton University. While fulfilling his military responsibility, he also served as Personnel Administrator and Administration Officer.  Supt. Ward was also an Administrative Officer for the Judge Advocate General School in Charlottesville, Virginia.  While stationed in Germany, Supt. Ward was Assistant Pastor at First Church of God in Christ, Stuttgart, West Germany.  He ended his time of service at the grade of Captain in 1986.

Through hard work and dedication to pursuing excellence in education, Supt. Ward graduated in June 2008 with a Bachelor of Arts in Theology and a Master of Arts in Christian EducationSupt. Ward’s professional career includes more than thirty years of executive, administrative, marketing and managerial experience. He was employed with the U.S. Department of Commerce, United States Census Bureau for two years serving in various leadership capacities for Census 2000.  Pastor Ward rejoined the Census Bureau in 2008 for his second decennial census as a Virginia partnership team leader for the 2010 Census.

At the age of 21, under the pastorate of Bishop Samuel Green, Jr., Supt. Ward accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior.  While attending St. Johns Church of God in Christ, he was active in the YPWW and Sunday School, serving as YPWW President for ten years.  Upon accepting his call to preach the gospel, he was ordained an Elder in the Church of God in Christ in 1983 by Bishop Samuel L. Green, Jr., Jurisdictional Prelate, Virginia Second Jurisdiction.  He was later appointed Second Administrative Assistant at St. Johns Church of God in Christ.  February 1996 Supt. Ward was appointed Jurisdictional Executive Secretary for the Second Jurisdiction, Virginia and was named Jurisdictional Secretary of the Year by Supt. A. Z. Hall at the Fall Session of the General Secretary’s Seminar in November, 2002.

Acknowledging Supt. Ward’s leadership abilities and anointing, Bishop Green asked him to assist Pastor Darcus in Charlottesville, Virginia. Before being sent to Charlottesville, Supt. Ward served as Interim Pastor at Faith Temple Church of God in Christ in Norfolk, Virginia.  In 1998 Bishop Green appointed Elder Ward Pastor of Bethel Church of God in Christ. Pastor Ward was elevated to the office of Superintendent in September 2013 and currently serves his district and continues to actively serve the Church of God in Christ at the local, district, state, and national levels.  He embraces the work of the Lord wholeheartedly.

He met and married Florine Elizabeth Cypress on May 17, 1981. To this union were born three children, Missionary Nykia, Eld. William, III (Arielle), and Dea. Ramon (Gifty); one grandson, Jackson and two granddaughters, Keera and Kaycee. After 25 years of marriage, District Missionary Florine Ward succumbed to cancer.  Pastor Ward later married Missionary Naomi Green. She has one son, Supt. Nathaniel (Kennisha) one granddaughter, Karis and one grandson, Nate, Jr..

Supt. Ward presents a practical gospel as he motivates and challenges people from every walk of life to strive for excellence in everything that they do.  Being a man of vision and foresight, he selected to broaden the ministry by incorporating television ministry and outreach ministry to assisted living facilities.
