Bishop Dwight E. Walls, Sr.

GENERAL BOARD CANDIDATE

Bishop Dwight E. Walls Sr., born on February 18th, 1949, is a son of the late Bishop Floyd A. Walls Sr. and Mother Alma Grayer Walls. A native of Ypsilanti, Michigan he attended the Ypsilanti Public School Systems having matriculated in various collegiate institutions which include Washtenaw Community College, Bank Street College, and the state of Michigan’s top flagship college, the University of Michigan.

Family:

A lover of God and avid family man, Bishop Walls is the husband of one wife of forty-six years, Missionary Mignon Nance Clayborn Walls. This holy union produced three children (Eld. Dwight II, Missy. LarScene, and Min. Dion – his wife Donnetra), five grandchildren (Dwight III, Micah, Christian, Devin, Deian, and Dean), and one great grandchild (Duke).

Local Church:

After receiving Jesus Christ as his lord and savior, Bishop Walls served his father faithfully in ministry. Moreover, his faithfulness was soon rewarded, being consecrated a deacon in the church. Months afterwards, Bishop Walls would respond to the call of God to preach the gospel, thus later being appointed an assistant pastor under the leadership of his father, Bishop F.A. Walls Sr. (Founder – Shiloh Church of God in Christ).  In 1994 Bishop Dwight E. Walls Sr. was installed by the late Bishop C.L. Anderson (Prelate – Great Lakes Jurisdiction Michigan) as pastor of Shiloh Church of God in Christ (Currently Greater Shiloh COGIC – Ypsilanti, Michigan).

Jurisdictional:

In 1986, the late Bishop Floyd A. Walls became Jurisdictional Bishop of the Second Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction of Canada, wherein Bishop Dwight E. Walls Sr. was appointed and served as Episcopal Adjutant to the bishop. Having served successfully as pastor, Bishop Dwight E. Walls Sr. was promoted and appointed by Bishop C.L. Anderson as the District Superintendent of the Greater Shiloh District, and later promoted to Administrative Assistant to the bishop. After the death of Bishop C.L. Anderson in 1999, these appointments would continue on under the late Bishop Alfred M. Smith (Prelate – Great Lakes Second Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction of Michigan).

National Church:

Remaining faithful to the work of God, under the leadership of the late Presiding Bishop J.O. Patterson, Sr., Bishop Walls began his servitude in the National arena of the Church of God in Christ, Inc. He served as a Marshall and later becoming apart of the first formed Security Task Force team of the Church of God in Christ. The faithfulness of Bishop Walls would not go unnoticed. He became a National Adjutant and was directly assigned to the Presiding Bishop, the late Bishop J. O. Patterson Sr., the late Bishop J.A. Blake Sr., and the late Bishop C. L. Anderson, Jr.  While serving as a National Adjutant to the late Presiding Bishop, (the late Bishop J. O. Patterson Sr.) and traveling the country fishing and hunting with him, a special love for him and a personal relationship was developed, so much so that the late Bishop J.O. Patterson included Bishop Dwight E. Walls Sr. in his last will and testament.

The favor of God continued to rest upon Bishop Walls considerably. During the 1988 quadrennial elections of the Church of God in Christ, he would go on to be elected for his first time as a distinguished member of the National Trustee Board of the Church of God in Christ Worldwide.

In November of 2016 Bishop Dwight E. Walls Sr., during the quadrennial elections, was re-elected for his 8th consecutive term by the General Assembly of the Church of God in Christ, to the National Board of Trustees. Additionally, he went on to be re-elected a second time as “Chairman of the Board” by his peers twice.

It is noteworthy to mention, that after this eighth term is completed in 2020, Bishop Dwight E. Walls Sr. will go on historical Church of God in Christ record as the longest serving male member of the National Board of Trustees, in the 110 year history of the Church of God in Christ, Inc. Apart from Bishop Charles Edward Blake (Presiding Bishop of the Church of God in Christ Inc.) and Bishop P.A. Brooks (1st assistant Presiding Bishop C.O.G.I.C.), Bishop Dwight E. Walls Sr. will also go on record as being the longest serving male elected official in the history of the Church of God in Christ – Worldwide.
