Bishop Jerry L. Maynard

GENERAL BOARD CANDIDATE

BISHOP JERRY MAYNARD is prelate of the Fourth Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction of TN. He serves as the pastor of Cathedral of Praise Church of God in Christ located in Nashville, TN and New Highway Church of God in Christ located in Memphis, TN. After 50 years in ministry, he is positively impacting lives and delivering a message across the nation encouraging people to maximize their potential.

Bishop Maynard, a native of Indiana, served as Director of the Muncie Indiana Human Rights Commission from 1967-1970, a member of the Indiana and United States Civil Rights Commission from 1970- 1981, and the President’s Domestic Policy Committee from 1977-1983. He is the recipient of the highest civilian award of the state of Indiana, “Sagamore of the Wabash.” A noted speaker, Bishop Maynard has lectured at Ball State University, Taylor University, Indiana and Indiana State Universities, Crossroads Bible College, Clark University and keynoted the nationally known “Soul Winners” Conference.

Bishop Maynard’s concern for the growth and edification of God’s people extends beyond the church. He has served as advisor to multiple Governors and Mayors in Indiana and Tennessee. He participates in several public and private boards of directors, lending his wisdom and expertise. He leverages his relationships to build the kingdom of God.

Many of his business relationships have funded mentoring programs for pastors, providing premiums for pastor’s life insurance, taking care of the widows, hosting community health fairs, food giveaways and much more. He considers the least of these in his decision-making. When He built the new 50,000 square foot edifice, he insisted that the labor force be made up of a significant number of minorities. Thus, approximately eighty-percent of the laborers working on the construction of the facility were African-American and Latino. Other churches building new facilities are now patterning this model. For his efforts, and his many contributions for the establishment of entrepreneurial enterprises, Bishop Maynard received the “R. H. Boyd Business Advocate of the Year 1999” award.

Bishop Maynard is married to Dr. Mary T. Maynard, together they have five adult children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
