The Church Of God In Christ, Inc. (COGIC) extends our deepest condolences and heartfelt prayers to the families, loved ones, and all those affected by the two recent tragic plane crashes. The first involved an American Airlines flight and a Blackhawk helicopter near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA). The second involves the Med Jets medevac flight from Northeast Philadelphia Airport. We mourn the devastating loss of life and pray for the comfort of God’s presence to be with the grieving families during this unimaginable time.
In moments of great sorrow, we turn to the Word of God for strength and solace. The Psalmist declares, “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit” (Psalm 34:18). May all who are mourning find refuge in the unfailing love of our Heavenly Father, who alone can bring peace in the midst of turmoil.
As we come together in prayer and solidarity, we urge all people, especially those in positions of leadership, not to exploit this tragedy for political gain. This is a time for compassion, unity, and support for those who are suffering, not for divisive rhetoric or baseless accusations. We must honor the dignity of the victims and their families by offering them the respect and prayers they deserve, rather than politicizing their pain.
The Church Of God In Christ calls upon people of faith everywhere to lift up those impacted by this heartbreaking event, asking God to bring healing to the wounded, strength to the first responders, and wisdom to our leaders. As we grieve, we stand firm in the hope given to us through Christ:
“He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” (Revelation 21:4)
May the grace of God surround all who are hurting, and may His love be a source of comfort in this time of sorrow.
Yours in His Service,
Bishop John Drew Sheard
Presiding Bishop and Chief Apostle
