A Pastoral Letter of Reassurance from Presiding Bishop J. Drew Sheard
Church Of God In Christ, Inc.
Dear Saints and Friends,
Grace and peace be unto you in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
As we prepare to come together for the 117th Holy Convocation in Memphis, Tennessee, November 4–11, 2025, I want to take a moment to bring comfort and reassurance to every member and guest of our great Church.
Many of you may have seen or heard recent news about the presence of National Guard troops in Memphis. Our Church Of God In Christ security team, along with local law enforcement and city officials, have been in consistent communication to ensure that all delegates and attendees can enjoy a safe, peaceful, and Spirit-filled week. The city of Memphis continues to welcome us warmly, and all venues—including the Renasant Convention Center, Cannon Center, Historic Mason Temple, and surrounding hotels—are fully prepared to receive the saints.
While the presence of uniformed personnel in parts of the city may seem unsettling, we want to reassure everyone that their deployment is unrelated to our event and that the Holy Convocation will go forward in joy, unity, and victory.
The Apostle Paul reminds us in Philippians 4:6–7, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
Let us hold fast to that peace as we come together expecting a mighty move of God. The Church Of God In Christ remains steadfast, prayerful, and full of faith.
Come expectantly, travel safely, and prepare to find renewal in the Lord’s presence. We look forward to celebrating together all that God has done and all that He continues to do through His church.
Your in Christ’s Service,

Bishop John Drew Sheard
Presiding Bishop and Chief Apostle
