Dr. E. Dewey Smith, Jr
A native of Macon, GA., Dr. Smith received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Religion from Morehouse College, Atlanta, GA. He matriculated at Morehouse School of Religion – The Interdenominational Theological Center – Atlanta, Ga. and received his Master of Science degree, graduating Magna Cum Laude, from the Southern Christian University in Montgomery, AL. Smith earned his Doctor of Ministry degree from the United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio. He was also inducted into the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Board of Preachers at Morehouse College as a Distinguished Preacher.
Pastor Smith commenced his preaching ministry at the tender age of 17 and his pastoral ministry at 19. God has highly favored him by allowing explosive growth and outreach to accompany his ministry. His first congregation grew from 48 to over 3,000 people in 13 years. After faithfully serving at Beulahland, God elevated him to become the Senior Pastor/Teacher of The House of Hope Atlanta. Under Dr. Smith’s leadership, the membership roll has grown from several hundred to over 11,000. In August 2009, the church purchased a 60 acre, 7 building campus, featuring a 7,000 seat Neo-Gothic Cathedral. Additionally, a myriad of capital improvements, enhancements and investments in the community have been made all for the glory of God.
Pastor Smith’s broadcasts and media ministries have been viewed by millions around the world. Additionally, Dr. Smith’s works have been published in The African American Pulpit Journal. He has authored several publications and his most recent book, “A God Dream” is a cutting edge, literary gem. Smith has served on the Board of Directors for the Morehouse School of Religion, Atlanta, GA., as well as the United Theological Seminary & Bible College of Monroe, LA. For over 20 years he has been a strong advocate of outreach ministry and community development and involvement. Additionally, he is a musician, producer, and songwriter and served as the Executive Producer of The Hope Mass Choir’s Live at the Cathedral CD. Pastor Smith is married to the lovely former Andrea Fambro, his best friend of over 20 years. They have been blessed with two sons: Kamari Elijah and Kylen Isaiah.
