Biblical Presupposition

Pilots have flight plans; teachers have lesson plans; drivers have road maps; architects have blueprints; and Christians have the Bible to tell us how to live. We begin with a renewed commitment to godly values building our lives, families, churches, and communities on the solid rock of Jesus and His word. Next, we follow Old Testament guidelines for community building to reclaim territory, eliminate apathy, illiteracy, joblessness, poverty, and homelessness. The key verse highlights Abraham’s vision as stated in Hebrews 11:10, “For he was looking forward to the city with foundations whose architect and builder is God.”

Black History Focus

Building examples abound from the historical roots of Black History when former slaves built towns in the 1800s during Reconstruction. The main structure—the church—was usually built first and became the town’s center. Homes and businesses were then constructed. Today, churches continue the work of rebuilding their communities through Community Development Corporations (CDCs). Examples are Pastor Floyd Flake (New York), Pastor Kirbyjon Caldwell (Houston), Presiding Bishop Charles E. Blake (Los Angeles), Pastor James Meeks (Chicago), Attorney Genora Boykins (Houston), Pastor Jerald January (Lynwood, Ill), and Dr. Byron Brazier (Chicago).

The Experience

This fun theme is based on construction! Preschool and Primary children will experience rebuilding with various games and activities. Games and activities are based on STREAM, Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Arts, and Math for a memorable Christian education experience.

Application Principles

Individuals have little impact when working alone. But when gifts are combined through communication, collaboration, and cooperation, we can really make a difference. God gives us gifts and talents to employ not just for our own success, but also for the success of our community—one that is whole and thrives—one that begins with family.
