pict-BennetHarold V. Bennett is a native of Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He was ordained in August 1987 by Bishop L.B. Davenport, in the Greater North Carolina Jurisdiction of the COGIC. He obtained his Master of Divinity degree from the Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta, Georgia, where he was the Salutatorian of the class of 1988. He received a Master of Arts and a Doctorate of Philosophy in Religion and Ethics from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. Dr. Bennett is the current Dean of the Charles H. Mason Theological Seminary in Atlanta, Georgia.

Dr. Bennett has published books, articles, and devotional readings in Hebrew Bible studies. His most recent book is Injustice Made Legal, which is published by Eerdmans Publishing Company. His published articles include “Justice” in the New Interpreters Dictionary of the Bible  (published by Abingdon Press), “Deuteronomy” in the Cambridge Dictionary of Christianity (published by Cambridge University Press), and “Deuteronomy” in the Biblia Africana Commentary Series (published by Fortress Press); “Triennial and Tithes and the Underdog: A Revisionist Reading of Deut 14:22-29 and 26:12-15." This article appears in Yet With A Steady Beat (E.J. Brill Publishing Company), a volume that casts light on afrocentric strategies for reading the Bible. He also has published a brief Commentary on Deuteronomy, which appears in The Africana Bible Commentary (Fortress Press), and is working on a commentary on Deuteronomy, which will appear in the Fortress Commentary on the Old Testament (FCOT published by Augsburg/Fortress Press). He has presented papers on Hebrew Bible studies and Philosophical Hermeneutics in Vienna, Austria, and Rome, Italy.

Dr. Bennett has served as the Program Unit Chair for the section on Biblical Theology in the International Society of Biblical Literature. Dr. Bennett has served as a Lecturer in the Black Women and Society Institute at the Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. Bennett is a former Program Chair for the section on Biblical Theology in the International Society of Biblical Literature. He has presided over international discussions on Biblical Theology in Cambridge, England, Amsterdam, The Netherlands, Vienna, Austria, and Rome, Italy. Dr. Bennett is a member of the Society of Biblical Literature, Society and the Society for Pentecostal Studies.

Dr. Harold Bennett is married to Dr. Valerie P. Bennett, and they have one son, Quinton (16 years old), and one daughter, Imani (12 years old). They have been married nineteen years. They attend the Temple of Faith Church of God In Christ in Decatur, Georgia, where First Administrative Assistant and Superintendent Thomas L. Frazier is their Pastor. His Jurisdictional Prelate is Norman O. Harper.
