Proverbs 14:12  says, “There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death”. Today’s college youth arrive at many crossroads. Studies have shown that many Christian college students abandon their faith during their college journey. Their zeal and love for God becomes quickly shadowed by this newfound freedom to explore new avenues of relationships, social outings, time and of course peer pressure all around.

Therefore, more than ever it is the role of the church at large to reach the “forgotten generation”. It is our duty to take our church youth under our care as we continue to strengthen them in sound doctrine while they are away at school. It will be the responsibility of the church to provide a support system for the college student that will include providing transportation in order to continue and encourage church involvement in various ministries/ weekly services that will keep them connected to God while away from their home church.

Mission Statement

~Pointing our college youth to the right road by leading them to the cross~

It is the mission of the Crossroads Ministry to coordinate with C.O.G.I.C. churches to provide “watch care” for C.O.G.I.C. students while they are away at college. This church will be the church away from home for students to attend and participate in various church ministries that they may have been members of at home.

  • Keep college youth active in church ministries while attending college away from their home church
  • Encourage C.O.G.I.C. churches to build and continuing a hands-on approach of reach college youth
  • To have 25 host churches participate in this Crossroads ministry
  • Coordinate a monthly conference call
    • Once a month college students will participate by calling in to a conference call line. This conference call will be held for about 15-20 mins each month and will be lead by successful C.O.G.I.C. leader. They will share words of wisdom and then have prayer collectively. Topics will include: study habits,
  • Establish a Facebook group page for all college youth to connect
    • This will establish a network between the students and host churches
    • This platform will also allow daily devotions to be posted
    • This will also allow college students to connect with each other and ask questions/network, etc.
    • Create a Crisis Call Center; utilize the message and call feature on Facebook Messenger that will allow youth in crisis to contact a leader confidentially for help in their immediate time of need.
  • Provide each college student with a host family/mentor at their watch care “host” church.
  • To formulate a mentorship network between professionals and students

College students and host churches will be asked to complete an evaluation form once a year for effective feedback. This feedback will allow us to make necessary changes to the ministry and strengthen the ministry.

Each “host” church needs to:

  • Have transportation to pick up the student each Sunday
  • Be located within 15-20  miles of the local university
  • Make sure that college student is given a meal each regularly
  • Have a family to commit to welcoming a student over holiday breaks if they cannot make it home.
  • Connect each student with a mentor/host family preferably in the students desired field.
