BISHOP AMERE MAY, SR.

Bishop Amere May, Sr. is a true end-time preacher who is a highly sought-after prophet of God sent into regions and nations to affect a paradigm shift in the spirit and minds of the people of God. His charismatic style and gentle demeanor have captivated many of his audiences, and his life experiences have nurtured his unique call to the ministry of reconciliation. He has been commissioned globally to the body of Christ. Amere J. May Sr. was born the eldest son of Deacon Walter Simpson and Super Christine Cunningham-Simpson of Michigan-Western Jurisdiction II. Taller and more athletic than most, Amere got hooked on basketball early in childhood. Being raised in South Haven, MI, his passion for the sport led him to garner national attention as one of the top high school basketball players in the country. After graduating from high school, he accepted an athletic scholarship to Central Michigan and Shaw University, where he continued to pursue his love of basketball. This path led him to participate in the 1997 NBA draft and later play professional basketball overseas in the countries of Israel and Argentina. It was during this season that he realized God had another calling on his life, one that would impact an entire nation. Bishop May returned home, acknowledged, and accepted his call to the ministry under the tutelage of his grandfather, the late Bishop Fred L. Cunningham. During this time, he united in holy matrimony with his childhood sweetheart, Kenya L. May of Chicago, Illinois. From this union they have two wonderful sons Amere Jr and Armani May. In September 2024, they will celebrate 29 years of marriage. Bishop May is a proud father and grandfather.

In 2005, in the city of Kalamazoo, Michigan, Bishop established Abundant Faith Worship Center. He experienced great growth and favor in Kalamazoo until God different! After seeking the Lord, Bishop May, his wife Lady Kenya and several families transitioned from Michigan to Charlotte, NC, and established Abundant Faith Worship Center. AFWC is one of the fastest growing churches in the city of Charlotte, NC. They established the Ann Freeman Learning Center, S.O.U.L Trained Strong Overcoming Unique Leaders. A mentorship program to former gang members, college and professional athletes. In November 2022, during the Church of God in Christ International Holy Convocation in Memphis, Tennessee, Bishop John Drew Sheard, eighth in succession, our Chief Apostle of the Church of God In Christ, and members of the General Board found confidence in the life, character, and ministry of our beloved Bishop May. He was consecrated as the Jurisdictional Prelate in the U.A.E. Dubai Jurisdictional COGIC. He has also penned a collection of books, including “Overcoming Frustration,” which has blessed many across the country, “Forgive Your Fathers,” and the latest book, “Courtside Conversations,” in which many professional athletes have partnered. Bishop May has honed his distinct ability to transcend tradition in his delivery of the gospel to reach a diverse group of people. Wherever God takes him in the future, he is determined to be used by God to lead, guide, and serve the kingdom with humility, passion, and power. www.ameremay.org
