ELDER DERRIC SCOTT

Derric Scott is the Chairman of the J29:7 family of companies and CEO of J29:7 Planning & Development Corporation, engaged in over $500 million in real estate activities. He previously served as CEO of East Jefferson Development Corporation, overseeing a $680 Million Development Plan on Detroit’s East Side, with $68 million in active projects. Before that, he led commercial development for Ford Land in Detroit, managing the $80 million Wagner Place development in Dearborn and contributing to Ford’s $738 million restoration of the Michigan Central Station in Corktown.

With expertise in affordable housing, community, and economic development, Derric has driven over $1.5 billion in investment, focusing on inclusive development that benefits surrounding communities. He is a Co-Chair of the Equity Advisory Committee for the Michigan Statewide Housing Partnership, appointed by the Governor, and holds various volunteer roles and board positions, including with the Boys and Girls Club of Southeastern Michigan. He recently completed a two-year term on the Advisory Council on Agriculture, Small Business, and Labor at the Chicago Federal Reserve Bank.

As Board Chairman of the Community Economical Development Corporation for the Church of God in Christ, Inc., he oversees affordable housing and economic development, leading the organization’s commitment to producing 18,000 affordable housing units, 70+ community facilities, and over $5 Billion of investment by 2035 in partnership with Enterprise Community Partners. He is also an Ordained Elder within the denomination. He has taught and lectured at top institutions such as Harvard, MIT, and the University of Michigan on real estate, finance, and urban planning.

A Gates Millennium Scholar, Derric holds a bachelor’s degree in Music and a Master’s in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Michigan, where he also studied Architecture. He and his wife live in Michigan with their nine children.
