ELDER MELTON R. TIMMONS
Superintendent Melton R. Timmons is a graduate of Gladewater High School, Kilgore Jr.
College and University of Texas at Tyler. He was a teacher and coach in Big Sandy, Union Hill, and Gilmer. At the Upshur County Community School, he served as the Community/Social Services Counselor.
He accepted his call to the Ministry in 1979, was licensed to preach in 1981, and ordained an Elder in 1982.
He served as pastor, Rocky Mound Church of God in Christ, Pittsburg, TX, 1982 – 2004;
Hayter Chapel Church of God in Christ, Longview, TX, 1985 – 2004; Jones Valley Community Church of God in Christ, Tyler, TX, 2004 – Present
In 1990, he was elevated to Superintendent of the Pittsburg District and Jurisdictional Executive Secretary, Texas Northeast Second Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction.
At present in the jurisdiction he serves as Administrative Assistant, Superintendent of the
David R. Houston District, Executive Committee and Financial Expeditor.
He served as Regional Director, General Secretary’s Office; Executive Board, General Council of Pastors and Elders; and is a member of the Executive Finance Council, Church of God in Christ, Inc.
Elected to the National Board of Trustees in 2012, he served as Assistant Secretary, Secretary and is presently the 1st Vice Chairman. He also serves as the Superintendent of National Properties.
He is a partner with Dearion/Davis Funeral Parlor, Gladewater, Texas; CEO and Publisher of the Ebony News Journal (a community newspaper) and founder/CEO of Better Days Group (an advertising/marketing firm). He has served on the Board of Directors for Tyler Metro Chamber of Commerce, Primary Purpose, Inc., G &T Young at Heart, Inc., Red Rock Memorial Cemetery, Inc., and Precinct Chair, Smith County Democratic Party.
Pastor Timmons is married to LaQueta Freeman Timmons, and they share their lives with their 5 children and sixteen grandchildren.
