COGIC Presiding Bishop J. Drew Sheard Elected
To NAACP National Board of Directors

February 28, 2025 – Memphis, TN – The Church Of God In Christ (COGIC), one of the oldest and largest Pentecostal denominations in the world, proudly announces that Presiding Bishop J. Drew Sheard has been elected to the National Board of Directors of the NAACP, the nation’s preeminent civil rights organization. This historic appointment marks the first time a leader of the Church Of God In Christ, the fourth-largest Protestant denomination in the United States, has served on the NAACP’s board.

Bishop Sheard brings a legacy of distinguished leadership, visionary management, and fiscal responsibility to the NAACP’s board. Under his guidance as Presiding Bishop, COGIC has experienced unprecedented financial growth, expanded its global footprint, and implemented innovative programs to serve communities in need. His strategic focus on education, economic empowerment, and social justice aligns seamlessly with the NAACP’s mission to ensure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of all citizens.
