This notice of Episcopal Transition is as per the directive of our Presiding Bishop & Chief Apostle, Bishop Charles Edward Blake, Sr.

God, who is omnipotent and omniscient, has summoned His Server, Bishop John Lewis Johnson, to eternal rest. Bishop Johnson was an Auxiliary Bishop in Texas Northeast First Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction; serving under Jurisdictional Prelate, Bishop James E. Hornsby. Bishop Johnson was Pastor of Greater Progressive Church Of God In Christ in Fort Worth, Texas.

Bishop Johnson served the Fort Worth community and was recognized as a “Living Legend.” This Gospel Giant had a tenure of 70 years of Gospel preaching, 61 years of Pastoral Ministry, 50 years of service as District Superintendent, and 24 years as an Administrative Assistant. In 2009, he and his late wife Mother Alma Katherine Johnson celebrated 65 years of marriage.

During the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic resulting in local and state restrictions on public gatherings to achieve social distancing, the family will hold a private memorial service for this servant.

During this time of uncertainty, we request the continued prayers as well as acts of emotional and spiritual support for the family.  It is with great honor that the National Adjutancy will assist the family during this most difficult time.

God, who is omnipotent and omniscient, has summoned His Servant, General Board Member, Bishop Matthew Williams, to eternal rest. As a beloved and endeared Servant of the Lord, the ministry of Bishop Matthew Williams is etched in the life of the Church Of God In Christ.

Bishop Williams served as Pastor of Brown Memorial Church Of God In Christ for more than 35 years. He was consecrated as Prelate of Florida Southwestern Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction in 1998. He was appointed Adjutant General in 2005 and served three terms until his election as a member of the General Board of our great church in 2016. He recently served as Interim Prelate of the Northern Mississippi Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction.

During the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic resulting in local and state restrictions, we request the continued prayers as well as acts of emotional and spiritual support for the family.  It is with great honor that the National Adjutancy will assist the Williams family during this most difficult time.

Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His Saints.”

This notice of Episcopal Transition is as per the directive of our Presiding Bishop & Chief Apostle, Bishop Charles Edward Blake, Sr.

It is with heartfelt sorrow that we acknowledge the transition of Bishop Ted Gera Thomas, Sr., who served as a General Board member and Prelate of the Historic First Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction of Virginia. God, who is omnipotent and omniscient, has summoned His servant to eternal rest.

Bishop Thomas is the pastor of both New Community Temple COGIC in Portsmouth, Virginia, where he has served for more than 48 years; and St. Stephens COGIC in Virginia Beach, Virginia, where he has served for more than 24 years.

During the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic resulting in local and state restrictions on public gatherings to achieve social distancing, the Thomas family will hold a private memorial service for this valiant soldier of the Gospel.  When the restrictions are lifted, a date will be set for a National Memorial Service that will appropriately recognize the godly life and notable achievements of Bishop Ted Gera Thomas, Sr.

During this time of uncertainty, we request the continued prayers as well as acts of emotional and spiritual support for the family.  It is with great honor that the National Adjutancy will assist the Thomas family and the Historic First Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction of Virginia, and the local ministries during this most difficult time.
