MICD Motto

Chaplains are members of clergy who are endorsed by their respective religious bodies to serve in various secular institutions.  Chaplains in the Armed Forces of the United States, according to the Geneva Convention, do not bear arms and are classified as non-combatants. (Geneva Convention Relative to the Treatment of Prisoners of War, 12 August 1949, Chapter IV, Article 33, Chapter V, articles 34 – 37) Chaplains serving in the United States Armed Forces are in alignment and obedience to our church constitution.

The Church of God in Christ Constitution states:

We believe that governments are God given institutions for the benefit of mankind.  We admonish and exhort our members to honor magistrates and the powers that be, and to respect and obey the civil laws.  We hereby and herewith declare our loyalty to the President and the Constitution of the  United States and Pledge fidelity to the flag for which the Republic stands, but as  God-fearing, peace-loving and law-abiding people, we only claim our inheritance as  American citizens namely; to worship according to the dictates of our conscience.  We believe that the shedding of human blood or taking of human life, to be contrary to the teachings of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and as a body, we are adverse to war in all its forms. We recognize the existence of our nation’s Selective Service Act and reluctantly submit to that provisions thereof only because the Scriptures teach us obedience to those over us (Hebrews 13: 17 and 1 Peter 2: 17). Accordingly, we accept induction into the Armed Services only as Conscientious Objectors; and as Conscientious Objectors, we submit to the bearing of arms only during basic training and oppose all advanced warfare training given to combatant soldiers.  We will serve our country in non-combatant units where we will not have to engage in acts of war. Our Christian position rests upon the following scriptures: Matt. 5:911:125:21-225:38-44Exodus 20:13Psalms 46:9Isaiah 2:41Chr. 22:8Psalms 68:30
