Interior and Exterior views of Historic Mason Temple

938 Mason Street ~ Memphis, TN

The World Headquarters of the

Church of God in Christ, Inc.

Built during WWII in 1940, it was a benchmark effort for a group of Black Americans. Construction materials, especially steel, were extremely hard to get; nevertheless, the task was completed making it the largest, black-owned church auditorium in America.

This historic church auditorium has been a focal point for many dignitaries including Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. who gave his final "Mountain Top" speech at this pulpit. In 1993, the President of the United States, Bill Clinton, at the 86th National Holy Convocation, gave a most powerful address (known as the "Memphis Speech"). Mason Temple has a seating capacity of 3,732.
