RUTH LYONS

Born February 20, 1945 in Kinloch, Missouri to proud parents, Robert Lee and Clee Ethel Lyons, Ruth was born into a rich musical family, the second of six children.

After moving to California when she was a young girl, Ruth discovered a love for sports, but her mother encouraged her to pursue singing. She wantedto continue sports, but her Mother Lyons was unwavering in Ruth’s focus on her gift of song and perfecting her vocal abilities.

In the late 1960’s, Ruth was asked and invited by her friend, Edwin Hawkins, to be a part of the group he was forming, The Edwin Hawkins Singers. In 1969, Ruth was a part of the landmark, Oh Happy Day LIVE” Recording. She was a featured lead on two songs with the group,‘Joy, Joy’, with Tramaine Hawkins from the 1969 album, “Let Us Go into the House of the Lord” and ‘Here’s The  Reason’ from the 1972 album entitled “I’d Like To Teach The World To Sing”.

In the span of her career, Ruth has performed with many choirs and groups throughout the Northern California Bay Area. She also workedfor the Naval Supply in Alameda, Ca, from which she retired.

Ruth was blessed to lead a song with her oldest brother’s group, The Robert Lyons Singers of Oakland, CA, titled ‘God’s Got A Blessing’, which wasrecorded in 1979.

At present day, Ruth Lyons is yet singing the praises of God and ministering his word. From the Prisons in the Northern California Bay Area to church houses abroad. Ruth currently serves as the Praise and Worship Leader of the Calvary Christian Center in Alameda, CA. She also assists herBrother-In-Law, Pastor Samuel Butler in ministry at the Love Fellowship COGIC in Alameda, CA. She shares her soprano voice on the latestrelease of the Refreshing Fountain COGIC CD, ‘Stay With The Lord’, under the leadership of her oldest brother, Pastor Robert Lyons, Jr.
