MEMORANDUM TO: Candidates for National Office and all Individuals vying for Positions in the National Church
FROM: Elder James W. Hunt, Sr., Chairman
DATE: October 22, 2012
RE: Characteristics of Candidates for Office
I would like to encourage every individual who is a candidate for an office or vying for a position in the National Church to maintain his or her integrity and not allow, participate in and/or distribute anonymous letters or statements of negativity. The participation in such activities only serves to disturb the peace and reflects badly upon the National Church.
The Church Of God In Christ, Inc., is a Holiness/Pentecostal Denomination; therefore, it is important for every member to remember that their life, at all times, should reflect the characteristics of Jesus Christ. In Romans 12:1, The Apostle Paul admonishes us to be a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God. And in Romans 12:2 he speaks to every member of the Church Of God In Christ; “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God." No candidate for office or individual vying for a position in the National Church should ever conduct themselves in ways that resembles those of the world. All of us should be living examples of holiness in everything that we do in life.
Brothers and sisters it is time for each of us to take the high road in everything that we do; realizing that we represent the National Church. More importantly, we represent God. I pray that each candidate will consider Hebrews 12:1-2; “Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, 2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith.” Remember a weight will hinder you in your running but sin will disqualify you.
In a few days I look forward to seeing you. You are in my prayers for safe travel.
